Vancouver, BC

I started Underwhelming Places because I got tired of travel content that only showed the highlights. The stunning vistas, the perfectly-timed golden hour shots, the once-in-a-lifetime moments. What about the rest of it? What about the bus station at 2pm on a Tuesday? The parking lot where you sat in your car for ten minutes before deciding not to go inside?

Living in Vancouver, I'm surrounded by genuinely beautiful scenery. Mountains, ocean, old-growth forests. But between those postcard moments is a whole city of concrete, drizzle, and quiet suburban ennui. That's the Vancouver I write about.

I navigate anhedonia — the muted emotional landscape where excitement and disappointment flatten into a gentle hum. It's not depression, exactly. It's more like emotional beige. And once I started looking at the world through that lens, I found a strange beauty in the unremarkable.

Every place I visit gets a meh rating out of 5, an existential echo score, and a soundtrack potential assessment. Because even the most forgettable bus stop deserves to be documented with care.
